Ari began studying <strong>violin and piano at age 4<\/strong> before turning to <strong>drums at 12<\/strong>, honing his skills at <strong>Philly jazz clubs like Ortlieb\u2019s JazzHaus<\/strong> by age 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After attending the <strong>University of North Texas<\/strong> and later <strong>William Patterson College<\/strong>, Ari moved to <strong>New York<\/strong>, where he played with groups such as the <strong>Jean Michel Pilc Trio<\/strong>, <strong>Kenny Werner Trio<\/strong>, <strong>Chris Potter Underground<\/strong>, <strong>Kurt Rosenwinkel Group<\/strong>, and <strong>Joshua Redman Elastic Band<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ari has released multiple <strong>solo drum albums<\/strong> like <em>Time Travels<\/em> (2000) and <em>The Life of a Day<\/em> (2002), showcasing the <strong>melodic possibilities of the drum set<\/strong>. He formed the <strong>Ari Hoenig Quartet<\/strong> in 2002 and signed with <strong>Dreyfus Records<\/strong>, releasing critically acclaimed albums such as <em>Inversations<\/em> (2006), <em>Bert\u2019s Playground<\/em> (2008), and <em>Lines of Oppression<\/em> (2011).
