Music Theory and Harmony Lessons The ASMM Program

Presentation

Ear Training and Harmony classes are designed to develop a deep understanding of music.
These courses provide a solid theoretical foundation to improve your playing, composing, and musical interaction with other musicians.

Ear Training / Harmony 1

This course is based on the proprietary method developed by the American School of Modern Music and used in its professional program, drawing from American university traditions. It starts with the fundamentals of music theory.
It covers all aspects of traditional ear training and theory, using a more playful approach that treats music as a language.
The goal is to understand music theoretically in connection with ear development, which is essential for any musical progress.

  • Ear Training: Reading basic notes and rhythms (straight/swing), sung solfège exercises
  • Harmony: Introduction to intervals, major and minor scales, modes, triads, cadences, etc.
  • Ear Training: Interval recognition, simple melodic and rhythmic dictations, active listening to develop relative pitch, transcription, etc.

Ear Training / Harmony 2

Continuation of the Level 1 course, based on the proprietary method of the American School of Modern Music, inspired by American university programs.

  • Ear Training: Sung solfège with modulations, groove work, swing, polyrhythms, odd time signatures, etc.
  • Harmony: Exploration of seventh chords, II-V-I progressions, and chord substitutions; introduction to cadences, melodic and harmonic minor scales, etc.
  • Ear Training: Recognition of four-note chords, harmonic dictations, identification of II-V-I progressions, dictations, listening and solo analysis.
